Women’s Basketball Recruiting Rules to Change

Division I women’s basketball coaches will be recruiting student-athletes under a new set of rules in the future.

The Board of Directors on Saturday adopted a new recruiting model that includes changes in rules governing communication with prospects, off-campus contacts, official visits, on-campus evaluations and the creation of a summer academic access model.

Do I run a Girls Basketball Recruiting Service

I wanted to share with you a question I received from a reader of GirlsBasketballRecruiting.com.

Do I run a Girls Basketball Recruiting Service?

No, I do not.

I’m a former college basketball player at the University of Memphis,  a girls basketball travel team coach since 2003, and an exposure event operator since 2008 in Memphis, TN. In one way or another, I have helped players earn athletic scholarships in basketball.

I use GirlsBasketballRecruiting.com as a platform to share what I learned during my recruitment days, what I have learned and am learning about recruiting as a coach, and what I’m doing to help my players get recruited.

10 New Year’s Resolutions for Girls Basketball Players

I found the following task list  on the NCSA Athletic Recruiting Blog. It refers to other areas that can affect recruitment. I’ve changed it up a little and even added 2 more items in relation to being a women’s college basketball prospect.

During January, people talk about setting New Year’s Resolutions. They normally refer to things to do or change throughout the year.

My challenge to you – Is to do these tasks over the next 30 days.

How AAU Coaches Can Prepare for the Upcoming Spring/Summer Season

During this past AAU season (general term, I did not participate in actual AAU sanctioned events), I took notes about the tournaments I were participating in and tournaments that I heard or read about on the internet.

Hoopgurlz.com was the main site I visited to see what events they covered.  Unfortunately, they are currently in transition.  PeachStateBasketball.com, BlueStarMedia, and  FullCourt.com are other sites I visited.

PeachStateBasketball.com covers their own events and also provides a calendar of events they will attend and recap for their website.

This is important for me. I look for events that receive coverage from well known online media. This helps me do what’s best for my players and what gives my players the best opportunity for exposure in front of scouts, evaluators and media.

Six Schools Selected for NCAA Grant Program Pilot to Increase Student-Athlete Academic Performance

When selecting a college, it is very important to factor in the importance the school and coach places on athlete’s academic success.

 Is study hall required?
Are academic counselors available to help map out college courses, career plans and goals?
 Are tutors available?

You want to be in an environment where you, as a person and as a student, and your future beyond basketball is important. It was recently announced that six schools received a NCAA grant to assist limited-resource institutions in further developing systems and enhancements that help schools meet the requirements of the NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program (APP), including increasing the graduation rates and academic success of student-athletes.
